6 months

He weighed 20.6 pounds at his check-up! 

We started month 6 with a sick little baby.  It started with an eye cold (which I had never heard of) and moved to a chest cold.  We had one really bad night where he didn't sleep longer than 20 minutes so I took a day off of work to take him to the doctor.  We all caught it- Robert was the worst- but it passed and our happy baby came back! 

We started feeding him rice cereal last month, but he only really started eating it in the last week or so.  We think he's starting to get teeth because he's putting EVERYTHING in his mouth.  He's had a couple of bad days when we can tell he's in pain.  Nola's been very sympethetic and asks everyday if his teeth are here yet.  They still love each other very much!

And we love him too! 

He's able to roll both directions and is pretty good at sitting up on his own.  He's still waking up once (around 3 or 4) most nights to eat. 

Nola never really feel asleep while she was playing or eating, but Turk does!  One minute he's smiling and playing and the next he's passed out.  It's pretty cute :)

 

We've been swimming quite a bit and he loves the water!  I took the netting out of the baby bathtub because he's too big for it.  The first time I put him in it he started kicking like crazy!  It made a big mess.  He loves to kick in the tub and the pool! 

He's babbling, screaming, blowing raspberries, and recently found his tongue- and another boy body part.  He also likes to play with his feet/toes.

He's basically the best and I'm having a blast spending the summer with him! 

Kid free week/bathroom update

We've been (slowly) remodeling our house.  It took us 3 years (maybe 2.5) to finish our first bathroom.  As soon as we finished the first one I was itching to start the second and I was SURE that it wouldn't take us as long as the first.  I wanted to send Nola to my parents that summer for a few days and re-do it all in that time.  Well, we did that, but didn't get as far as I would have liked.  If fact, we only got it gutted.

Now I know what you're thinking- WHY DIDN'T YOU KEEP THE CARPET!?!?!

Just kidding.  You're probably thinking- There's no way that bathroom sat gutted for three years before we stepped foot in it again!  Well, just like carpet in a bathroom, you're wrong.  I could tell you we didn't work on it because we couldn't figure what to do about the shower base that didn't fit in the spot where the base was previously, or that Robert had to have surgery on his leg the last two summers and was unable to walk, but the truth is that it wasn't a priority.  Yes, we would have finished it sooner if those things hadn't have come up, but we didn't.  

After a few close calls and a couple of accidents (mostly Nola :) we decided we needed to make a second toilet a priority.  After my trip to Dallas I left the kids with my parents in Wichita and headed home to work on the bathroom for 3 1/2 kid-free days.  While I was gone, Robert got all of our supplies ready and cleaned out the room so when we woke up on Tuesday we got to work! 

The first day we installed the shower base and sub floor, plumbed the sink, then we went to Columbus because I had a volleyball game.  The second day we installed the drywall, taped and mudded, and started tiling the floor.  The third day we finished tiling, primed and painted, and installed the light fixture.  And on Friday we woke up early to grout then packed up and drove to Lincoln for a wedding.

For now we're not dealing with the shower.  We have to special order a part and like I said before, the toilet is the priority.  Our next step is to add a chair rail/decorative trim to hid the drywall tape.  We are hoping to do that this weekend and then we can add the toilet and sink!!!

Dallas

I spent Memorial Day weekend in Dallas with my mom and sister.  It's become a little bit of a tradition for the three of us to take a trip to celebrate my mom's birthday, last year we went to Kansas City (remember? We bought a selfie stick and our lives were changed forever).  Our plan next year is to go to Pittsburgh so Jessica can join us.

I seem to do a terrible job taking pictures on our trips, probably because their aren't a lot of photo opportunities when you spend all day shopping?  I can pretty much sum up all of our get-togethers in a few words: eat, shop, pedicure, shop, drink. This was a yummy frozen Moscow Mule!  

Texas has some good eats, y'all!!  Let me tell you about a pork chop that I ate.... It was AMAZING!!  If you go to Dallas, you HAVE to go to Perry's Steakhouse and order the pork chop.  Even if you don't like pork chops.  It will be the best thing you ever ate.  OMG THAT PORK CHOP!!!

Anyway, this trip was a little bit different than our normally outings- we went to the lake!  Sara's friend (and honorary family member), Kyle has a boat so we got to go on a little excursion.  I wasn't feeling great, so I'm going to have to go back sometime to really enjoy the lake!  

We also got to spend time with/meet my sister's boyfriend.  He's the one who introduced Sara to the pork chop so he's all good in my book!

Last day at Michelle's

Nola is officially done with full-time daycare!  Next year she will be coming to Columbus with me and going to Preschool.  A few weeks ago she had to say good bye to all of her daycare friends and Michelle, her daycare provider.  I was way more emotional about it than she was.  I wanted to make sure she knew that she wouldn't be spending time with them anymore, but I didn't want to upset her, so I talked to her about it a little bit and had her pick out a present for Michelle.  She picked out some flowers and a balloon. 

Turk will still be going to Michelle for daycare so she's not rid of us yet!  There are two other kids around Nola's age and one of them is heading to preschool next year too so Michelle got a picture of all of them together and made a frame.  Gabby wasn't there that day so she also got a picture of Nola with her.

I'm so thankful that Michelle is so thoughtful.  Nola loves all of her daycare friends, especially Gabby and Maddie.  I know she had a great time there and I can tell she's going to miss them because she still talks about them a lot!
